7 Steps On How To Become A Successful Musician In Nigeria
In Nigeria today, we hear a lot of music, both the ones we find very difficult to understand and the once we just play because we enjoy the beat. With the type of difficult lyrics that we hear today by Nigerian artists, coupled with the number of upcoming artists we see every day, there tends to be much more competition in the area of music and also very difficult for talented musicians to make themselves known. But today, these tips on how to become a successful musician in Nigeria will help shape the upcoming ones.
1. Quality
Quality is paramount in any business, however, it’s very important in building your music, but unfortunately, so many upcoming artists are not aware of this or how to go about to develop the quality of their work. As an upcoming, you should learn how to organize your songs, make the rhyme, and mixing to be wonderful and professional. And also, work on your body and appearance so as to get the attention of your fans, especially the female fans. For example, we see the likes of Flavour, Iyanya, and others. Their body structure is enticing to the eyes. And also, if you are a female artist, work on your body and shape to get rid of fats and other things. All these help in organization of the artist.
2. Be willing to display somebody
We are in the 21st century and while performing on stage at some point, you will need to show off some parts of your body, like the likes of Iyanya, Dbanji who go shirtless on stage help entertain their fans. Someone like Tiwa Savage gets young every day because of the way her body looks. This makes their fans will sometimes want to be like them.
3. Be on the Trends
As a public figure, you have to be on the trends, whether it’s good or bad trends, no publicity is bad as long as you make your name heard. Let’s take for instance like when Naira Marley had an issue with the EFCC, it really made his name to be heard across the whole country. Other people like 2face who are known for having a lot of children from different women. So find a way to make trends.
4. You should have a Slogan
We all know that most of the musicians in Nigeria have their own slogan which when said you already know the artist who has it. For example, Shekpe!, Yeeh!, Marlians!, Kapachumerimericubanko! I am certain without mentioning the names of artists who uses those slogans we already know them.
5. Make your self official
Looking official is very important, whether upcoming or not but most important for upcoming. Doing this will help you stand out among others in the midst of all the competitions. Get your self a good sponsor or director. Design your graphics well make it look mature.
6. Try and feature well-known artists
Associating your self with well-known artists is very important in this journey as this will help grow your fan base and take you to the spotlight. Although as being upcoming, we know it’s not easy if you are willing certainly you can do it. There were certain musicians now who featured some known artists before they became known….someone like Peruzzi, Mayorkun, Bella shmurda, etc.
7. Promote your brand
Getting to this height isn’t always easy. But the most important thing is your consistency. Don’t relax until you get there. Spend on your self and on your music. Meet the right people who know things about your line of work. Without all this, it will be difficult to progress.
