Rema reveals he is more loved in India than Nigeria
Afrobeat superstar Rema disclosed that the overwhelming love he receives from Indian fans is top-notch compared to Nigerians.
The “Calm Down” crooner was featured in an interview with GRM Daily, where he gave insight into the kind of reception and love his Indian fans have shown him during his tour in the country. Comparing it to his experience back home, the singer concluded that he is more loved by the Indians. “It’s crazier than the love in Nigeria.” He said.
He recounted how he was criticised and told that his song (Calm Down) was not good enough; however, he expressed his gratitude that the song is now paying big and has the tendency to pay much more.
“Imagine if I stopped and listened to the trolls; four years later, it paid, and it paid big and more to come,” he said.
When queried to ascertain the authenticity of the news that made the rounds, suggesting he was paid three million dollars to perform at the Ambani wedding, the Mavin signee said that, monetarily, that is how much was paid, but beyond the money was the hospitality and acceptance he received from them. “That’s all I can say money-wise, but it was a great treatment.’
Explaining further, he said, “It’s a huge territory, and I’m actually the first person to tour India from the Afrobeats space, and it’s a huge deal. It’s not just about the wedding; it’s about the reception everywhere I go”.
