Bernard Hopkins names “overachiever” as Fighter of the Year 2024
Former pro boxer Bernard Hopkins claimed that the Boxer of the Year 2024 award should go to Terence Crawford who formerly called himself an overachiever. Hopkins went ahead to explain.
‘Look who he beat,’ said Hopkins to FightHub TV. ‘Look who he beat. What he did to Spence, and how he did it, that’s three fights to me, And it took four fights out of Spence, right. Did you see that?’
Hopkins later added that the defeat of the once-undefeated Spence harmed Spence more than physically.
‘I’m a fighter. I can tell you when you get punished like that, it takes years out of you,’ he said. ‘You don’t see that right now but it takes something out of that person going forward.
‘They still can be in some fights but it really puts a bruise on them. You ain’t see Spence fight again yet? Did you hear him name potential opponents? Did you see the weight he gained? That tells you.’
After beating Spence last year in a one-sided match, Crawford called himself an overachiever.
‘I only dreamed of being a world champion. I’m an overachiever. Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer.
‘I want to thank Spence and his team because without him none of this would have been possible.’
The duo are expected to have a rematch after Spence heals of his cataract surgery.
