Joshua Buatsi versus Anthony Yarde: Negotiations still ongoing
Joshua Buatsi updated his fans recently to show that nothing had yet been decided about his fight against Anthony Yarde.
These Light Heavyweight contenders have been expected to meet in the ring for a bout in a long while. However, it is being understood from official updates that Buatsi is making a big request.
Buatsi posted an update on X following a statement Yarde’s promoter Frank Warren made recently.
‘No offer yet,’ wrote Buatsi. ‘Still waiting. You all know who I’ve asked for.’
Warren had previously said the following to Sky Sports:
‘Everybody wants it, says they want it and it’s a matter of agreeing the terms. One side has agreed terms and the other is still negotiating. I’m hoping that we can get it done. Because it’s a fight that everybody wants to see.
‘At the end of the day, everyone’s going to have to be realistic. If everybody’s as good as their word it will happen.’
Buatsi later added on X that the people on his path to the fight were Yarde and Queensberry.
‘Been ready to go. Waiting on @mranthonyyarde @Queensberry.’
Though Buatsi versus Yarde is not a title fight, it is a road to the world Light Heavyweight kingship.
Warren said to Sky Sports, ‘The winner of that fight will become the mandatory to the title and the two guys, Beterbiev and Bivol, as you know are fighting on June 1 so they’re going to be out of action until at least November.
‘So [Yarde-Buatsi] is a no-brainer. It’s a no-brainer and why wouldn’t it happen? I think it’s a good fight for Anthony. But I see where people come from where they fancy Joshua.’
Both English men will be looking to get a big payday.
