Oleksander Usyk On Undisputed heavyweight Bout: ‘It just so happened that Tyson Fury is standing on my way’
WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksander Usyk spoke recently ahead of his undisputed world heavyweight bout with Tyson Fury. One of the things the Ukrainian said was that whoever stands between him and the title would get a fight.
Fury versus Usyk is an interesting fight for several Reasons.
Fury is taller, bigger and a more powerful hitter, while Usyk uses lots of superb footwork, precision and swift combinations to dismantle his opponents.
It is also expected that Fury who holds the WBC heavyweight strap will overcome any attempt to be knocked out, while body shots might yield a late stoppage for the Brit.
Speaking exclusively to Boxing Social recently, Usyk said the following about their fight which comes up on May 18:
‘I will definitely fight on May 18, and my training will not be in vain.
‘But I am very happy that Tyson is recovering quickly from his injury and is already back in training.
‘I have to fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
‘It is not important who will be the opponent. It just so happened that Tyson Fury is standing on my way to the undisputed championship. But if Tyson doesn’t want to fight and decides to give up his belt, I will gladly fight for it with whoever the WBC chooses as a challenger.’
If Usyk later lost the fight, it would be his first time since his amateur career.
