Nigeria 1–0 Angola: Peter Obi watches as Nigeria beat Angola at Abidjan
His Excellency Peter Obi was live at Abidjan when Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat Angola 1–0 in the ongoing AFCON quarter finals.
Ademola Lookman scored in the last minutes of the first half after making good use of Moses Simon’s assistance. Though Victor Osimhen’s 75th minute header was cancelled after a VAR check, Palancas Negras could not find a reply to Lookman’s goal.
Before the match, Angola’s coach Pedro Gonçalves said that Nigeria was a strong team, but that his team will prove something by beating the West Africans. But his team has been knocked out after putting up a valiant fight.
Among the dignitaries present to witness the game were former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Ned Nwoko, and others.
Obi’s special adviser, Valentine Ozigbo, posted the following on X:
‘Just arrived in Côte d’Ivoire with HE @PeterObi to support our soaring Super Eagles to victory in the Quarterfinals of AFCON 2023. Quite a pleasant lunch at Sofitel Abidjan.
‘Let’s rally behind our team, knowing their strength and unity on the field mirror our spirit and passion as a nation. Together, we soar higher.’
By beating Angola, Nigeria is nearer to the AFCON trophy, having secured their place in the semi finals.
