How did it happen?

Many from the Spanish football federation support Luis Rubiales. This is shown in the fact that they were not calling for Rubiales’ resignation. Even the Spanish government body has not tried to oust him from his throne, though some government figures have said he should resign.

People are calling on FIFA to stop Spanish teams from participating in European football leagues, even Spanish clubs. It is an international guiding principle that state governments are allowed no interference in the matters of governing a football body. Only when Spain does that would this proposed option be legal.

At no time has the Spanish government said they had any intention of sacking Rubiales, but they have not shown signs of the opposite too. So the people in the government are divided over this issue. An issue likely to cause a lot of division between  their country and the European Union, not to talk about FIFA who is still considering allowing them to co-host the coming 2030 Men’s World Cup.

According to those minded with Rubiales’ forceful dethronement by the Spanish central government, there seems to be a deep loyalty coming from the central government to the defamed RFEF president. They wonder why there is slothfulness in removing him.

Rubiales has disclosed he would go to court to answer for himself, but the trial is likely to be held in Spain. There is likely to be a huge disagreement with a verdict that declares Rubiales no guilty if the constituents of the decision-making body were unsatisfactory to them.

All the Spanish women’s team are on strike. Were a match to come up now, Spain would have to find other representatives or appease the main team by sacking Rubiales and apologizing that it took them that long to do so. But the Spanish government is only kept back from being harsh with Luis Rubiales for one thing: he claims the kiss, which he calls ‘the peck’, was consensual.

58 other team constituents of the Spanish women’s team have resigned in protest. So, it is clear that most or all parts of even the youngest Spanish female teams are gone.
