ASUU: President Muhammadu Buhari instructs Ngige to end negotiations.
President Muhammadu Buhari gave Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu the go-ahead to put an end to the union-based university’s strike operations.
Additionally, the President authorized Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, to cancel talks with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Ngige was often accused by ASUU of being a stumbling block in the ongoing negotiation and of blackmail.
At the Presidential Villa, the President held a meeting with some of the ministers and chiefs of the Federal Government departments involved in the negotiations.
He ordered that the Federal Government’s and ASUU’s continuing negotiations be concluded in two to three weeks.
He gave Adamu, the minister of education, instructions to start coordinating with ASUU immediately now and to take the initiative in negotiations.
The Federal Government’s planned 100% wage increase was thought to be something that ASUU was willing to discuss.
