NFF approves September 30th for election.
At its Annual General Assembly yesterday, the Congress of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed September 30 as the date for the football organization’s election of a new executive committee.
In the hours before the start of the AGA, there were concerns that Pinnick may be asked to step down by the majority of Congress for serious wrongdoing; but, the former chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission used his political wisdom to ease tension.
Although the General Assembly decided that the election should take place on September 30 rather than 10 days earlier, when the present board’s term is expected to expire, Congress rejected the Pinnick-led board’s proposal to move the election forward by one month.
Pinnick, however, launched a carefully worded attack on Congressmen who criticized his leadership, claiming that their animosity will hurt Nigerian football’s image.
According to him, his goal is to leave Congress as a single entity, just as former President Aminu Maigari had done when he received it.
