How i got the name “Burna Boy”

Burna Boy, an Afro-fusion singer, has disclosed that his penchant for drawing comic book superheroes was the source of his stage name.

The singer of “Twice as Tall,” whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, revealed the information while performing on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”

Burna Boy claimed that as a youngster, he once made the decision to name a fictional character.

“This is weird but I used to draw comic books and copy different superheroes like Spiderman, Superman and I would just draw it,” he said.

“At one point, I wanted my own superhero, where I could draw myself as a superhero with the cape and all that. I was trying to come up with a name and all I could think of was Burna Boy.”

The singer also spoke about his recently released album titled ‘Love, Damini’.

Burna Boy said Ed Sheeran, the British RnB singer, who featured in ‘For My Hand,’ a song off the album, is “one of his favourite people in the world.”
