#EndSARS: Federal Government pays N289 million to 74 victims of police brutality.

The Federal Government has compensated 74 people for rights abuses committed by the former Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force with N289 million (NPF).

At the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) office in Abuja, a check presentation to the victims.

The board chairperson expressed gratitude to those who submitted complaints to the Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations regarding the prohibited SARS and other police units for their faith in the country’s human rights mechanisms and for their diligent presentation and pursuit of their cases before the panel.

She gave the people of Nigeria her word that the NHRC, an autonomous institution, will continue to carry out its duties under the NHRC Act, which include promoting and defending human rights throughout the nation.
