ASP killed, others injured as gunmen attack Police station in Delta
An Assistant Superintendent of Police in Delta State has been killed while several others sustained injuries following an attack on a police station by unknown gunmen.
ASP Obasanya Samuel amongst other victims, was attacked at the Isiokolo Police Division in Ethiope East Local government Area of the State.
According to reports, the other attacked officers are, ASP Robinson Irobo and PC Chukwudi Abanu who were on guard when the incident occurred.
The unknown gunmen reportedly stormed the Isiokolo Divisional Headquarters at about 8:30pm on Thursday.
In the course of their operation, the gunmen reportedly killed ASP Obasanya Samuel, while ASP Robinson Irobo was shot in his left hand. The Constable who was also on ground when the incident occured was lucky to have escaped unhurt.
It would be recalled that in less than three months, over 8 police officers have been killed in Ughelli North, and Isoko South local government areas of Delta state.
In Ughelli North, an Inspector, Destiny Ifeanyi was kidnapped and killed, PC Ujeya was shot dead, two other officers were shot dead at Ekredjebor, another Inspector Ukpaka attached to Dragon 19 was killed along the East-West Road, and four others that were shot dead and their vehicle set ablaze at Oleh roundabout in Isoko South local government areas respectively.
According to sources, “The Station Officer, ASP Samuel Obasanya and two other officers, ASP Robinson Irobo and PC Chukwudi Abanu were at the gate of the station, when their assailants, three in number on a motorcycle attacked them.
“The Station Officer, ASP Samuel Obasanya was shot and was confirmed dead at Isiokolo General Hospital, while ASP Robinson Irobo was injured in his left hand and PC Chukwudi Abamu escaped.
“They opened fire on them and sped off the scene. The injured officers were rushed to Isiokolo General Hospital for medical attention and ASP Samuel Obasanya was confirmed dead and his corpse deposited at the morgue.
“The other injured Officer, ASP Robinson Irobo is currently receiving treatment while the Delta State Commissioner of Police Mr Wale Abass has drafted a team of security operatives to unravel those behind the killing.”
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright who confirmed the incident said, “It was a drive-by shooting, we lost one of our officers. We are on the trail of the suspects.”
In another story, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has ordered all military commanders and soldiers to exact revenge for the deaths of their colleagues.
The CDS who spoke during the burial of soldiers killed by bandits in Niger State on Friday, vowed that those responsible for the act will not go unpunished.
The CDS said, “Those that did this, and those that have continued attack, kill our men, wherever they are, we will get them out, we will smoke them out and we will ensure that they never have any other opportunity to kill any other person, that I assure you.
“We will hunt you down, we will bring you to Justice. We will not relent until we get those causing havocs in the country”
He further stated that ‘this is one of those most difficult days because when you have tobbury your own, you feel highly pained. I promise you (Families of deceased). We will not relent until we get all those causing havoc in any part of our country. Our resolve will not wither. We will hunt you (perpetrators) down. We will bring you to justice”.
