Saudi Super club Al Ittihad has since made known their desire to have Egyptian player Mohamed Salah in their team. Speaking through a representative, the club disclosed that Salah wants to relocate to the Saudi Arabian club, and that they planned to make him the highest paid player in the world. Fans think Salah’s recent coded post seems to be a proof of his desire to leave.

The transfer window shuts today in England, but that of the Saudi Pro League is open till 30th September.

It is not possible for Liverpool to find a replacement for the key player now; this is because their plan was to have him for two more years. Salah signed a binding paper last year that mandated him to stay at the British club for three years.

A former player and manager at the British club, Graeme Souness, recently said what he thinks would happen.

‘He is contracted to Liverpool but the modern way is if a player digs his heels in then you have to bend to his wishes.

‘I think in commercial terms of the football club, we’ll be looking at it like this. If we sell him now, it’s over 100 million. A year from now, will the money still be on offer?

‘So you factor in that the owners are hard-nosed American businessmen, they will be looking at the numbers as opposed to anything else.

‘There’ll be no sentiment attached … But only Mo knows what he really wants to do. I’m sure it’s very attractive to him. He’ll go there and he’ll get you know, ridiculous amounts of money.

‘He’ll be treated like a hero in Saudi Arabia, given that he’s from Egypt, like no other player going out there and I put Cristiano Ronaldo in that. Because he’s Egyptian I think he’d be welcomed like no one else.

‘Difficult one, a difficult one for the player because he has been great for Liverpool and Liverpool have been great for him. As I said we are second-guessing but we’ll have to wait and see.’

According to the contract Salah signed, he was to receive £350,000 per week from the club. This is the highest payment a Liverpool player has received, and he was the first to receive it. But Al Ittihad is willing to pay him more, since he is not yet the highest paid player in the world.

Former Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher thinks the £100m being offered for Salah by the Saudi kings is enough.

I think it’d have to be over £150million. I’m not saying he’s worth that right now at his age but I don’t think £100m; you’re not replacing Mo Salah for £100m. If they offered a crazy figure but as I said it is so late in the window. If it was earlier – maybe they might think about it because that is the model that they’ve had in the past but I don’t think Mo Salah is going anywhere.

– Jamie Carragher, speaking to Sky Sports.

Salah recently dropped a picture online with the caption, ‘Most people lose their free will’. People wonder whether it has anything to do with his alleged eye for Saudi ruling club Al Ittihad. But it seems they might make do with a statement by Mo Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas.

‘If we considered leaving LFC this year, ‘ said Abbas, ‘we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC.
