Premier League Transfer Window: Which Clubs Spent The Most

After the frenzied signings on Friday and the clicking shut of the transfer window in the Premier League clubs arena, fans are talking about two things: the players  that were signed or sold, and which clubs spent the most money. Chelsea, Manchester United and several others won the top spots.

Noteworthy is the fact that a record was broken at the end of these transfers, with more money being spent than ever before. And the most of this cash was pumped into acquiring defensive midfielders.

The aforesaid clubs spent a thunderous £2.44bn, making obsolete the best record of  £2.14bn, which was last year’s record, and the second-highest ever. This gives insights into the lucrativeness of the football industry and the desire of club shareholders to make names and win cups.

These clubs earned only £1.36bn from selling players. Below is a deeper dive into clubs and how much they spent:

Chelsea:

Chelsea spent £434.5m this transfer period, and broke the world record of the highest spending ever done by a club since the Premier League started in 27 May, 1992.

Though no accolades follow this kind of spending from the world, the club would not regret it when keepers Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic who were gotten for €23.00m and €16.00m respectively, start stopping goals and giving Chelsea savoury seasons.

Chelsea shed off about 21 players this transfer window; Pochettino considered them excess to the goal of better results he had in mind.

Manchester City:

Manchester City would have won the silver medal if awards were given for the highest spending on players this transfer window. They spent £216.3m to land the players they coveted. Their key signings include Croatian Josko Gvardiol (£77m), Portuguese Matheus Nunes (£53m), and Belgian Jeremy Doku (£51m).

From all indications, Manchester City is ready for one of their best seasons ever.

Tottenham Hotspur:

Tottenham would win the bronze. The club spent £212.3m during the transfer window.

Some key signings were Van de Ven (£43m) and Maddison (£40m).

Arsenal:

The Gunners trailed the Spurs, spending £208m on deals. Some of their key signings are Declan Rice from West Ham (£105m), Kai Havertz from Chelsea (£65m), Jurrien Timber from Ajax (£38m), and David Raya from Brentford (Loan).

Manchester United:

The Red Devils came next in spending, after the Gunners. The summary of their spending during the transfer window is £183.5m.

Some of their key signings were the Dane, Rasmus Hojlund from Atlanta (£65.00m), English Mason Mount from Chelsea (£55.00m), Cameroonian Andre Onana from Inter Milan (£45.00m) and Turkish Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce (£4.20m).

Coach Erik Ten Hag seems very serious about this season.

Which Transfer Windows Are Still Open In Europe?

Only the WSL (Women Super League) is open presently, and will also click shut on Thursday September 14, at 5pm GMT (domestic transfers), and midnight (international transfers).
