Kissgate: Luis Rubiales to stay 200m away from Jennifer Hermoso, according to restraining order

Following the court hearing of the case between Luis Rubiales and Jennifer Hermoso today, Judge Francisco de Jorge granted prosecutors’ request  for a restraining order against former-RFEF president, Luis Rubiales. This was reportedly done to provide safety for Jennifer Hermoso for the time of the hearing.

The charges against the former president border on sexual assault and coercion.

During the prize-giving ceremony at the FIFA Women World Cup, while Spain was celebrating their one-goal win over England, he hugged Jennifer Hermoso while being videoed, and planted a very controversial kiss on her lips. Of this action has emerged many arguments, since Hermoso complains it was non-consensual, while Rubiales affirms the opposite.

In the video of the kiss, the president talked to Jennifer Hermoso before the kiss took place; there was no struggle on her side, nor did she wear an angry expression. Talking during the early days of the kiss-controversy that got many internet users arguing on many topics, the former president said that he requested whether he could give her a peck, and that she agreed. FIFA had to ban him for 90 days then as investigations went on, while some citizens and government officials called for his resignation.

Presently, Rubiales  must not contact Hermoso by phone, Email or any other means while the case stays un-summarised, according to the restraining order. To breach any of the following could lead to arrest and other unsavoury proceedings, and complicate the already complicated case further. But Rubiales might not have any intentions of spending any time behind the four walls of a prison, so he is likely to send others to speak for him if he wanted to pass any message to Hermoso, but not as his representatives or messenger.

Spain’s women’s senior team are still unwilling to play any matches for the country anymore, till satisfactory reforms are done in RFEF (Spain’s football governing body). About 81 players left the federation during the early days of the controversy, and the male team gave their speech days later, declaring their support for both Hermoso and the women’s senior team.

200m equals more than 656ft. It would be in Luis Rubiales favour to stay that far from Jennifer Hermoso for the time, as things stand.
