Woman kills husband with a pestle in Ondo
In Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria, a middle-aged woman has allegedly murdered her 67-year-old husband and ran into hiding.
The incident occured recently at the GRA area of Ondo town in Ondo State.
According to sources, the suspect, identified as Mrs Tayelolu Solomon hit her 67-year-old husband with a pestle on his head when he was asleep.
It was gathered that Prior to the incident, the couple had been having a lingering crisis.
Meanwhile, The son of the deceased, Ibukun Solomon, who witnessed the incident, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
Solomon alleged that his mother was the one who killed his father after she hit his head with a pestle while he was asleep.
He added that his mother immediately ran away after commiting the crime adding that the couple had quarrelled some hours earlier.
Solomon (the deceased’s son) said, “My mother killed my father with a pestle in my presence and took to her heels. She used the pestle to hit his head when he was asleep.
“Earlier on the fateful day, a minor argument had ensued between them that resulted in a fight. After the fight, my father went to lie on the chair and my mother hit his head with the pestle.
“When my mother saw that my father was already unconscious, she hid the pestle at the back of our house and ran away. I alerted some of the residents, who rushed my father to the hospital.
“But he later died. His corpse has been deposited at the morgue. My mother had three children for my father and I’m the last child.”
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami said, the command would soon arrest the suspect.
The Police PRO said the deceased was quickly rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.
“The incident happened last week when the couple had a fight but the suspect is currently at large. We are already on her trail,” she stated.
In another story, An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Odigbo, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, has ordered the remand of a man, Kayode Ojo, in prison for attempting to commit suicide inside a police cell.
The defendant was earlier arrested by the men of the state police command, for attempting to take his own life.
He was alleged to have attempted to drink a poisonous liquid substance inside the cell and was consequently, arraigned before the court by the police on one charge of attempted murder.
According to the police prosecutor, Mr James Usifo, the offence committed contravenes Section 327 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Usifo told the court that the defendant committed an offence of attempting to kill himself by drinking a poisonous substance suspected to be a disinfectant in police custody. He was said to have earlier been arrested for another crime and detained in a police cell where he attempted to kill himself.
While the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, the Chief Magistrate, D. O. Ogunfuyi, in his ruling, remanded the defendant at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till October 10, 2023, for fact and sentence.
