A$AP Rocky risks 9-years jail term for allegedly threatening to kill A$AP Relli in 2021 shooting
Famous American rapper, Rakim Athelaston Mayers popularly known as A$AP Rocky could face a nine years jail term if found guilty of charges against him by fellow American rapper and member of ASAP Mob, A$AP Relli.
This is as Relli claims ASAP Rocky shot him four times, once on the hand and threatened to kill him during a 2021 shooting that left the latter wounded.
“I’ll kill you,” Rellie said Rocky had told him.
Court hearing is coming after Rocky had already pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm after being arrested in April 2022 at LAX while returning from Barbados on a trip with his rumored wife, Rihanna.
According to reports, Police ahad earlier raided Rocky’s home in Los Angeles and found a gun, but acknowledged that it was not the one used in the alleged shooting. Police also said they secured footage of the shooting, providing enough evidence to officially charge the rapper for assault.
Testifying in court on Wednesday (November 8), where Rocky was also present, Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron, explained his relationship with the superstar rapper and their eventual falling out.
According to him, tensions between both of them ignited after Rocky allegedly promised to help the family of a deceased member of the A$AP Mob, but apparently never did adding that they later arranged to meet at a Los Angeles hotel on November 6, 2021 where A$AP Rocky unexpectedly arrived with multiple men and pointed a gun at his stomach and said: “I’ll kill you right now.”
Rellie claims that he was shot shortly afterwards before Rocky allegedly fled the scene.
Grainy video footage of the alleged shooting was shown for the first time during Wednesday’s court hearing. Obtained by Rolling Stone, the clip shows a scuffle at a Los Angeles intersection with the group later scattering and one notably running away.
This is not the first time A$AP Rocky has found himself in legal trouble. He spent time in Rikers Island as a teen for allegedly shooting at a rival drug dealer and was later imprisoned in Sweden for assault.
Meanwhile, Rellie is also suing A$AP Rocky and his lawyer Joe Tacopina for defamation, alleging the attorney of launching a media campaign against him that paints him as a liar.
Commenting on the lawsuit, Tacopina hit back, saying: “This is actually nothing more than a publicity stunt which is going to backfire badly. I more than welcome this lawsuit especially because the resolution of the criminal case has not happened yet.”
Footage obtained by TMZ shows him signing autographs after the proceedings had wrapped for the day. When asked by paparazzi how he feels, he confidently replied: “I feel how I look — good.”
