Boxer of the Year: Malignaggi announces top contenders

Paulie Malignaggi has listed few top boxers whose performances might win them a specific, special award this year. Nearly everyone would agree that one of them is qualified to receive the Boxer of the Year award for 2023.

Malignaggi is an American former professional boxer. He competed from 2001 to 2017 and has since worked as a boxing commentator and analyst.

Speaking on who the likely winners were, he gave his opinion as follows on Paulie TV:

‘Terrific performance from Devin Haney [against Regis Prograis]. Great way to close the year for him. I think he’s in the running for Fighter of the Year. I’m not sure he can really get it – I think David Benavidez had a better year.’

‘If Haney would have dominated Lomachenko and then got this dominant win I think he would be in the running but right now Benavidez was so good against Caleb Planet and even better against Andrade he is the front runner.’

‘Although right behind, making a late charge, Naoya Inoue who got a big win over Fulton earlier this year and is now looking to unify in a new weight class against Tapales. These are the three guys I’m looking at for Fighter of the Year.’

Devin Haney’s two-weight champion status will change in the future as he is preparing to vacate his undisputed lightweight title for good.

Currently, Malignaggi is associated with BYB Extreme Bare Knuckle Fighting Series and ProBox TV, alongside Mike. Malignaggi was born in 1980 in Bensonhurst, New York, NY. He stands at a height of 5’9″ and weighs 147 lbs. Throughout his career, he had a total of 44 fights, with 8 losses. He is well-known for his boxing expertise and has become a respected figure in the boxing community.

On the other hand, Gervonta Davis has replied to Haney’s call out in the following words:

‘I promise you. Your father gonna cry for what Imma do to you and that’s on my dead homie. Ya best bet is to enjoy it while you can.’

It is very likely that the bout will be held, but the approximate time is yet clouded.
