Deontay Wilder returned to the ring following his first-round KO of Robert Helenius in 2022 to face Parker, a friend and sparring partner of Tyson Fury. It was Fury who relieved him of his WBC heavyweight championship title.

Following an outstanding performance against Tyson Fury as a boxing debutant about two months ago, Francis Ngannou got very famous and respectable both in the internet and within the boxing world.

A third-round knockdown of Tyson Fury plus his good number of hard punches in that fight, earned him the tenth place among the WBC’s top ten.

Following Ngannou’s match with Fury, Wilder had been making efforts to fight with Ngannou. Reports say that both men could meet in the octagon next year.

In reaction to Wilder’s loss, Ngannou posted the following on X, ‘Licking my lips after watching this fight 😋🍽️ @RiyadhSeason #BattleOfTheBaddest.’

Deontay Wilder was expected to beat Joseph Parker to the point that few were expecting the upset that took place. Tyson Fury’s sparring partner was advised by Fury before going into the fight, but it did not look as if that advice was all Parker was working with.

Apart from showing up with a lesser body weight during the final weighing session, Wilder must have accumulated a significant amount of ring rust.

During an interview before the match, Deontay Wilder said he was not expecting to be called for a business proposal before being told about signing a fight contract with Parker. He went on to claim that he had been keeping himself ready before that time though, but his statement before the actual fight was surprising.

Wilder said that following his first meeting with Parker at the pre-fight presser, he had gone back to train harder.

He might fight Ngannou in the octagon next year, and if so, will be going in less scarier than he was.
