Latest update from UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis reveals surprising chat with Sean Strickland
Current UFC middleweight king, Dricus Du Plessis, claimed he had a surprising post-match chat with past champion, Sean Strickland.
Whether the content of their conversation was astonishing to Du Plessis is still to be known, but many are still wondering why the former champion said what Du Plessis alleged he said.
Following their bout at UFC 297, Sean Strickland publicly rejected the split decision that marked Du Plessis the winner, saying he did enough to retain the title he had only won last year.
However, Du Plessis told a story later which seems to pour cold water on any assumption that Strickland thought he really won.
‘I understand calling for a rematch, getting the public behind you. But he came to me in the cage before they announced me as the new champion…and he said “No, you definitely beat me. You deserve it, you won that fight, you beat me.
‘He knew he wasn’t winning that fight…
‘Then afterwards, when were in the doctor’s rooms, he came to me and said “You’re a warrior. I wouldn’t want to lose to anyone else, you deserve this”.’
Du Plessis’ title defense is expected to happen at UFC 300, while Israel Adesanya is his likely opponent.
