Erling Haaland: ‘I will miss chances in the future and people will criticise me’
Norwegian international Erling Haaland mentioned that people will criticize him for chances he would miss in the future.
The Manchester City player expected to make more mistakes on the pitch in his young career, even though he knew criticism mostly followed blunders.
During a pre-match news conference held recently, Haaland said:
‘You can think in two ways: last year I got 36 [in the Premier League] and this year I have 18.
‘You can think whether it’s good or not for me. I think it’s been a good season.
‘I’ve missed a lot of chances. I will keep on missing chances and I will still score goals.
‘I will miss chances in the future and people will criticise me. I will focus on scoring more goals and trying to score.’
Even the best players in history made mistakes on and off the pitch, and Haaland might have started learning to accept missing chances as part of life.
According to his comment while speaking in the conference, the young skipper usually cried when his mistake was part of why his team lost. Maybe he criticized himself too harshly in such situations.
‘It was a challenge for me when I was young. I would start crying if we lost and I missed a lot of chances.
‘I’ve been working a lot and I demand of lot of myself, my teammates and the manager demand a lot from me. At the end, everything is in here. So far, so good.
‘It’s something I’ve been working naturally on. Everything in life, if you overthink it, it’s not good. If you have stress, it’s not good.
‘My life is about football so that’s what I focus on. I have one career, my focus is to be the best player I can be.’
Manchester City faces competent Copenhagen on Wednesday for a Champions League battle. Haaland will be looking to make himself very useful for the Manchester Blues.
