Barry McGuigan At Carl Frampton: ‘He could not have achieved anything without me’
Seven-year-long enemies, Carl Frampton and Barry McGuigan are yet to reconcile, with the latter saying that the former could not have achieved anything without him.
McGuigan was once Frampton’s promoter under the umbrella Cyclone Promotions, but the two separated seven years ago after winning two world titles together.
Frampton won the super-bantamweight belt in 2014 by beating Kiko Martinez, and a featherweight title in 2016 by defeating Santa Cruz. However, McGuigan would later say he earned nothing from the boxer till after they won a commonwealth strap.
Speaking to The Times, McGuigan spoke as follows:
‘I didn’t take a penny off him for over two years [until] he won the Commonwealth title. That is it. We’ve gone on. Shane has produced champion after champion.
‘He [Frampton] can say what he wants but he knows he could not have achieved anything without me or my family and the work that we put into him.’
It seems the two will be enemies for a longer time, sadly.
