Popular musician Charles Chibueze Chukwu, aka Crayon, who is signed to Mavin Records, has reviewed his ascent to fame and some of the difficulties he encountered.

The Ebonyi-born musician claimed that after getting a contract with Mavin Records, he was able to support his family by preventing his mother from peddling fruits in Iyana Oba, Lagos.

The 21-year-old, who is the family’s only child, claimed that her mother was encouraging and had even given him money for recording sessions.

Crayon claims that because his father used to sell records and MC events, he frequently took some of the CDs, listened to the music, and tried to imitate the artists.

He claimed that when he was 12 , he joined the church choir to try out music but left because of stage fright.

The songwriter admitted in an interview that going into music wasn’t always his goal, but that his father sparked his interest in it.
