Ekweremadu’s wife granted bail
In the midst of a trial involving alleged organ harvesting, Beatrice, the wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has been granted bail.
It is said that the 21-year-old man was brought to the UK by Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, 55.
According to the prosecution, they intended to have his kidney removed so that they could donate it to their daughter.
Beatrice went before the primary criminal court in London, often known as the Old Bailey, on Friday and was granted bail, the Daily Mail reported on Monday.
The Common Serjeant of London, judge Richard Marks, was cited by the Daily Mail as stating, “The situation is that I have rejected bail to Ike but I have given bail to Beatrice subject to some quite harsh terms.”
The court was informed that the prosecution is not appealing the ruling.
As previously stated by prosecutor Tim Probert-Wood, the case featured “exploitation and the harvesting of an organ.”
