Although the funeral has not yet been scheduled, it is believed that it will take place on Monday, September 19, at the conclusion of the official 10-day period of mourning.

During his accession ceremony, where he was formally crowned as the new monarch, the new king confirmed the holiday.

The day of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday, as the king has decreed.

Mordaunt said: “Drafts of two proclamations. One – appointing the day of Her late Majesty’s state funeral as a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The crowd outside the palace then cheered three times for the new ruler before standing still and listening to a distant artillery salute.
