The transfer of Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City has been completed.

He is a 41-cap Swiss international who has won championships in both Switzerland and Germany. He joins former Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Sergio Gomez, and Kalvin Phillips as our fifth summer additions. Julian Alvarez also joins us after his loan with River Plate.

The 27-year-old center defender joins the team on a five-year contract that keeps him with the team through the summer of 2027.

During his four and a half year tenure with the Black and Yellows, he made 158 appearances and won the German Super Cup in 2019 and the German Cup in 2020/21.

After finishing his move to the Etihad Stadium, Akanji told mancity.com, “I am excited to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
