Lionel Messi of Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain paid a visit to Jeddah this week after being named the Saudi Tourism Authority’s official brand ambassador.

The choice of one of the most well-known sports personalities in the world to promote tourism highlights the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s extremely ambitious aspirations to increase the sector’s importance to the nation.

Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the minister of tourism in Saudi Arabia, wrote on Twitter: “I am glad to welcome Lionel Messi to Saudi Arabia. We can’t wait for you to discover the Red Sea’s treasure, the Jeddah Season, and our long history. you previously visited the Kingdom, and  will return there again.
