‘No politician has ever given me anything’ – Burna Boy

Afrobeat superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has debunked speculations that he has received hush money from politicians affiliated with him, which is why he’s not lending his voice to the #endbadgovernance protest currently ongoing in the country.

The multi-award winner took to his X (former Twitter) handle on Thursday to announce that, contrary to rumours, he has never collected anything from any politician. The Grammy winner also asked those spreading false rumours about him to ask the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, about the land and money he promised to ascertain if he ever fulfilled it.

Burna Boy wrote, “No politician has ever given me anything, go ask Wike where the land him give me or which money him give me, you think am your faves”.

Recall that Wike announced in 2021 that he would give Burna Boy a plot of land and cash as an appreciation for winning the Grammy Awards. This was when he welcomed Burna Boy and his parents on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt. Wike described the Grammy-award-winning Afrobeat singer as “the pride of the state” and promised to reward him for making the state proud.
