Rapper Nelly caught with ecstasy pills, arrested by poilice
United States rapper Cornell Haynes Jr, popularly known as Nelly, has reportedly been arrested by officers at a casino in St Louis, Missouri, for allegedly possessing illegal ecstasy pills.
According to a Highway Patrol report, the three-time Grammy Award winner was searched and found with four pieces of ecstasy pills. However, the rapper’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, disclosed that he was arrested by an “overzealous police” who he said “was out of line”.
Mr. Rosenblum mentioned that Nelly had been fortunate enough to win multiple casino jackpots at a venue in St. Louis, Missouri, which he often frequents.
When he arrived to claim his prize, the officer overseeing the transaction decided to conduct a warrant search, even though it was not necessary. After discovering the outstanding warrant for lack of proof of insurance on an old traffic charge from Maryland Heights, the officer decided to take advantage of him and restrain Mr Haynes by handcuffing him from behind and parading him through the casino, attracting attention from onlookers.
According to an online report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, the arrest took place at 4:45 am local time on Wednesday.
Mr Rosenblum said the officer at the casino did not have “probable cause” to search the rapper, who he said wasn’t notified of the outstanding warrant. He added that every other citizen would have been told to address the warrant and not be arrested, insinuating the officer had an ulterior motive for arresting the rapper.
“I am 100% confident this case will go nowhere. And we will be asking for an inquiry into this officer’s conduct,” Mr Rosenblum said.
