Serena Williams Set To Retire From Tennis
Serena Williams has revealed that she will retire from tennis and concentrate on growing her family in a lengthy article with Vogue. The 23-time grand slam champion, who took a year off from the game after being eliminated in the Wimbledon first round, has only recently made a comeback.
Williams has now confirmed that she will retire from tennis very soon after previously hinting that her career was nearing its conclusion.
The US Open would be a perfect venue to end her career as it has been a childhood desire of hers to win the competition, regardless of how soon that could be.
The 40-year-old said it’s time to evolve away from tennis and work on expanding her family, “I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people,” Williams said.
