Sports fixtures across UK postponed to mourn the late Queen.
It was announced that all Premier League games this weekend have been postponed out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II.
English top-flight clubs made the choice despite British government advice that it was not required to postpone sporting games during a time of national sorrow.
“At the meeting, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the Premier League said in a statement. “To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.”
Additionally, all matches in the Scottish professional leagues, Women’s Super League, and English Football League have been postponed.
In a show of respect, several athletic events in Britain, including as Test cricket and the PGA Championship of European golf, have been postponed. Those activities might resume this weekend.
