Super Falcons were defeated by the Moroccan team hosting the current WAFCON.
The Super Falcons, a senior women’s football team from Nigeria, were eliminated from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a thrilling semifinal encounter against Morocco (WAFCON).
Halimatu Ayinde (48 minutes) and Rasheedat Ajibade received two red cards, reducing the Falcons to 9 women in the second half (71minutes)
Yasmin Mrabet’s own goal gave Nigeria the lead against the Atlas Lionesses in Rabat, but the visitors tied the score four minutes later through Sanaa Mssoudy.
Prior to opting for penalty shootouts, both teams fought valiantly through the full 90 minutes of play and additional 30 minutes of extra time without scoring.
Nigeria lost the shootouts 4-5, and in front of a crowded stadium filled primarily with home supporters, the Moroccans celebrated wildly.
Nigeria will play Zambia for third place, while South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will play Morocco in the competition’s final.
