Timo Werner has completed a permanent transfer to RB Leipzig from Chelsea.

The forward, who left Stamford Bridge for west London after four brilliant years and returned home as a European and world champion, is returning to the club where he first found success before transferring there.

The highlight of his tenure with the Blues was the Champions League victory in Porto, and he contributed to the success during his first season in England. Nobody scored as many goals or provided as many assists as he did in all competitions, and only Mason Mount played more games for Chelsea in 2020–21.

Initial plans called for him to return to the team on a season-long loan with a buy option, but rapid negotiations between the two clubs resulted in a £25.3m (€30m) plus bonuses on a four-year deal for the Germany international’s permanent transfer.
