The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made the disclosure while speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital where he explained that the Federal Government has already asked the schools for permission and that many schools have agreed and are excited to start farming.

Imagine those open fields on campus; the government says, “Let’s grow food there!” This way, we can have more food for everyone.

According to Ssenator Kyari, the government also wants to help farmers by giving them special solar-powered machines to water their crops stating that these machines work with solar power, so they don’t need petrol.

He said the government doesn’t want farmers to stop at just growing crops but rather, wants them to turn these crops into useful things like making juice from oranges or turning cassava into flour. This way, the government said farmers can make more money and we can have more delicious products to enjoy.

Also speaking at the event, a professor, Cyril Nwamguruka who listed selfishness as a big problem in Nigeria said that some people are too selfish and that such leads to not having enough food.

Professsor Nwamguruka asked the President, Bola Tinubu, to choose people for important jobs who are not selfish, people who care about others and are honest while ensuring that the roads are good and safe.

“Right now, sometimes food gets wasted because it’s hard to get from the farms to where people live. So, good roads and security are important to make sure we have enough food for everyone,” Professsor Nwamguruka said while describing the Federal Government’s move as “some cool plans.”
