Useni who is known for vehemently antagonizing Nigeria’s incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his political party, was viewed on screen as he engaged in a word battle with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Jesutega Onokpasa during a live interview.

This was as the journalist disagreed with the chieftain’s view concerning the fuel subsidy removal.

In a viral short clip, while Oseni talked, Onokpasa tried to interrupt him, but the interviewer said, “Let me finish Mr Onokpasa. Let me finish please.”

Useni’s response, however, did not go well with Onokpasa who claimed that the interviewer was disrespectful to him as a guest on the programme and threatened to leave the studio if the interviewer continued to speak to him in a high tone.

Onokpasa, pointing fingers at the screen, said, “Please, don’t raise your voice at me, young man. Don’t raise your voice at me Rufai. I’m your guest, you will respect me. I will walk out of your studio if you raise your voice at me. Talk to me respectfully.”

But Oseni responded, “You may well take your decision if you want to. I’m asking a question. You might decide to walk out if you want to.”

However, as the duo kept talking at the same time with and the Arise TV presenter grappling with words to ask a question, the already agitated Mr Onokpasa deliberately refused to listen or respond to his question. He rather called on Useni’s colleagues on the Programme to ask him if they had any further questions while urging Oseni to be a journalist if that is actually wants to be or quit pretence.

He alleged that Oseni was working for politicians and not practicing ethical journalism.

Rufai Oseni is a Presenter on the Arise Tv network, one of the biggest and most influential Tv stations in Nigeria currently. He is perceived to be an advocate of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Though possess the traits of asking guests very difficult questions that oftentimes throw them off balance, Val9ja has learned that many Nigerians perceive his opinion as imbalanced as against the codes of conduct of practicing journalists in the country.

This is however, not the first time the Arise TV journalist is becoming the news.

In August 2022, the Lagos State Government vowed that it would take disciplinary actions against the Arise TV anchor for driving on the dedicated lane for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

This was as the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile in a statement via his Twitter handle, described the broadcast journalist as a lawbreaker saying he (Rufai) would face the necessary penalty for flouting BRT rules.

Though Rufai, in a tweet, replied to the State Governor’s CPS stating that he did not deliberately break the law and that he would not have passed the BRT lane if other drivers had not used the lane, eventually succumbed to pressure against him and apologized to both the state government and the masses for his misdeeds.
