Military officers killed by terrorists in Niger laid to rest amidst tears

The Nigerian Armed Forces has laid to rest the remains of some military personnels who were reportedly killed by terrorists in Niger State last week.

The burial ceremony which was conducted at the National Military Cemetery Abuja in line with military tradition, had in attendance, Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa, service chiefs, families and well wishers of the fallen heroes while governors of Kaduna and Niger States were represented.

The deceaseds include three officers and 22 soldiers who were killed in an ambush in the Zungeru general area of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state while seven were wounded in the course of the firefight with terrorists.

Some casualties were reportedly recorded when a NAF helicopter on mission to evacuate the earlier deceased and wounded troops, crashed at Chukuba area of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state on Aug. 13.

The crashed helicopter was said to be conveying 14 bodies of the previously killed soldiers and seven wounded ones, two pilots and two crew members.

Val9ja News had earlier reported that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has ordered all military commanders and soldiers to exact revenge for the deaths of their colleagues.

Late MAJOR SEGUN ABIODUN ONI (N/14427)
Late Major Abiodun was born in Benin City but hails from Ekiti State. Granted Regular Combatant Commission on September 17, 2011. He attended several courses including Platoon Commander Battle Course in United Kingdom, Ranger and Special Purpose Commando Course in Belarus, Green Beret Special Forces Course in the United States of Americs and Counyer Terrorist Course in South Africa. He was Platoon Commander 72 Special Forces Battalion and 2nd in Command Defence Headquarters, Special Operations Forces Battalion

Flight Lieutenant ALFRED ANTHONY DURYUMSU (NAF/4481)
Late Flt. Lieutenent AN Duryumsu was born on 19 February 1995 in Dengi. He hails from Kanam LGA of Plateau State. Amember of 64 regular course NDA. Among others, he did his Helicopter Basic Flying training at NAF Institute of Training, Kaduna and the USA. Helicopter Instructor Pilot Training at International Helicopter Flying School and MI-171E Recurrency Simulatiin Training at Czech Republic. He actively participated in military operations including Operations Hadarin Daji, Operation Dadin Kai, Whirl Punch, Safe Haven.

Flight Lieutenent IBRAHIM A ADAMU
Late Flt. Liutenant Abubakar Adamu was born on 19 September 1993 at Burra. He hails from Ningi LGA of Bauchi State. He is a member of 64 Regular Course NDA. Among others, he attended Instrument Rating Course in the United States of America,MI-171 Helicopter Air Training Course at Czech Republic, MI-171E Co-Pilot Training at 201 Composit Group as well as the MI-171E Recurrency Simulation Training at Czech Republic. He actively participated in military operations including Operations Hadarin Daji, Hadin Kai, Whirls Punch, Safe Haven

Army Lieutenant GBENGA MICHAEL ODUSAM (N/17314).
Late Lieutenant Gbenga Odusam was born on May 1993 in Lagos and hails from Odogbolu LGA, Ogun State. He was granted Regular Combatant Commission as a member of Regular Courae 65 on 6 October 2018 in rank of 2nd Lieitenant. He was on the Nigerian Army Infantry and was recently promoted to Captain effective September 21, 2023. He was serving at Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces Brigade before his deatg on 13th August, 2023. He has served as Platoon Commander 10$ Battalion and Platoon Commander 153 Task Force Battalion.

Lieutenent USMAN SHEHU ALKALI (N/18250).ate Lieutenant Usman Alkali was born on March 25 1978 in Gombe and hailed from Gombd LGA of Gombe State. He was granted Executive Commission as a member of Executive Course 1/2020 on 9 May 2020. He was of the Nigerian Army Infantry. He was serving at 45 Battalion. He died on 13 August 2023. He completed the 10km mandatoryWalking/Jogging and the Tactical Walk Back after Exercise Wazobia Hunter. He was also the Ambush Commander in Exercise Bautan Kasa.
