President Tinubu mourns Ohinoyi of Egbiraland, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim

Nigeria’s incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Ado Ibrahim.

Tinubu’s condolence was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

According to the statement, the president condoled with the government and people of Kogi on the passing away of the revered traditional ruler.

He said the death of the Ohinoyi was a painful loss while describing the deceased as peace-loving, affable, and cerebral.

“The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland was in a class of his own. He was highly respected and admired for his deep insights, wisdom, and sophistication.

“He had a masterful way of handling issues. He was very knowledgeable and wise. May Almighty Allah grant His Majesty Aljannah Firdaus,” the president prayed.

President Tinubu also urged the good people of the state to take solace in the legacy of peace and fellowship left behind by the late traditional ruler.

Alhaji Ado Ibrahim reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday October 29, 2024, in an Abuja hospital after a brief illness.

He was the Ohinoyi of Egbiraland and also doubled as the vice chairman, Kogi Council of Chiefs before his demise.

The monarch who reportedly died at the age of 95, was born on February 7, 1929 and was the fourth traditional ruler as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

Before ascending the throne, he was a successful businesman who lived most parts of his life in Lagos.

Alhaji Ado Ibrahim ascended the Okene throne as the second Ohinoyi or fourth independent traditional ruler of Ebiraland on  June 2, 1997.

During his reign, he constructed the magnificent Azad Palace named after one of his sons. The palace is renowned as one of the most beautiful in West Africa.

The late monarch, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim will be remembered for his wisdom and  dedication to tradition as indelible landmarks in the lives of generations to come in Egbiraland.

Relatedly, the Kogi State Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Muritala Ajaka, has described the death of the Ohinoyi of EbiraLand, Ado Ibrahim as a calamity to the people of the state.

Ajaka in a condolence message by the Spokesman and Director of communications, Muri/Sam Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Faruk Adejoh-Audu on Sunday, said the passing of the monarch has robbed the state of the bravest, courageous, honest, forthright and God-fearing leader, who worked tirelessly for the unity of the people of the state.

“Our father is leaving at a time the state desperately needs his unifying guidance and wisdom to keep strengthening us as one indivisible people.

“The last time I visited him, Late Ado Ibrahim was as courageous as ever when he declared that been the oldest paramount ruler in the state every kogite is his child and he would not be intimidated by anyone to reject his own children.

“This death is a calamity to Kogi State and indeed Nigeria as a nation. Ado represented that last rare breed of valiant elders who will never shield the truth no matter the threat or reward for doing so.

“He will be remembered as the King who brought glamour, panache, pomp, and pageantry never before seen in these shores to royalty.

“On behalf of my immediate family and the teeming supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). I wish to commiserate with the good people of Kogi Central and indeed the entire citizens of Kogi State for this irreplaceable loss of a father who recognised us all as his children.“May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah firdau,” Ajaka said.

“The Campaign Council has suspended all activities scheduled for today, Sunday, October 29, 2023, including a World Press Conference scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Abuja today.

“All SDP flags at our campaign offices throughout the state will fly at half mast through this week in honour of our late King,” he added

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ebiraland traditional council, Yinusa Duke has said the late Paramount ruler of Ebiraland, Ado Ibrahim who passed on in the early hours of Sunday, will be laid to rest at 2 pm in accordance with Islamic rites.

Duke told Newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday, that his remains were wet on their way from Abuja en route to Okene where he would be laid.

“The burial ceremony has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today, Sunday in Okene. We are waiting for the arrival of the corpse from Abuja, where he died, ” the secretary had said.

He said that the paramount ruler died at around 2:00. a.m. on Sunday in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after a protracted illness.

The scribe said his death was “very sad and a big blow” to Ebiraland.

“We lost our daddy and leader this early morning of Sunday in an Abuja Hospital where he had been treated for age-related ailment for three weeks now.

“We are in shock and pain over his death. He was indeed a good father and leader to not just Ebiraland but Kogi and Nigeria as a whole

“His death has left a vacuum in the entire Ebiraland,” he said.
