The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, dies at the age of 72
Chief Alaba Lawson, a prominent figure known for her roles as a former National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and the Iyalode of Yorubaland, has passed away.
Chief Lawson reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, October 29, 2023 at the age of 72, leaving behind a void that will be challenging to fill and her legacy as an educationist and founder of the renowned Alaba Lawson Group of Schools in Abeokuta that many have said will be remembered for generations to come.
Chief Alaba Lawson’s demise was made known in a statement issued Saturday by the Executive Secretary of the Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines, and Agriculture, AbdulRahman Maku.
According to the statement, Maku on behalf of the entire Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines, and Agriculture said:
“We regret to announce the demise of NACCIMA past President and ABEOCCIMA Matron and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, MFR, JP (Iyalode of Yorubaland) which occurred in the early hours of today, Saturday 28th of October, 2023.
“Burial arrangement to be announced later by the family. May God Almighty grant repose to the soul of Iyalode.”
Born on January 18, 1951, Chief lawson’s life journey is said to have been marked by a remarkable commitment to various fields. She was a business magnate, an entrepreneur, an academician, and an unwavering champion of women’s upliftment and empowerment whose tireless efforts in these areas have reportedly left an indelible mark on the communities she served.
