Curmel Moton

Floyd Mayweather’s promotion company captured a young talent called Curmel Moton not long ago, and Mayweather’s work behind the scenes is expected to get the teenager to the highest levels in little time.

Talking to journalists recently, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, said, ‘Me personally and Floyd, we’ve had this conversation a number of times recently. This kid is special. And we’re going to handle him accordingly. His path is going to be a little different from most fighters his age who are good. He’s really, really special.’

The boy who was signed while he was not older than 17 years old, who even sparred with southpaw Gervonta Davis at 16 years old, is now a professional boxer.

‘Young fighters can get sidetracked. [Moton] just stayed the course and worked really hard to get to this point. I’m just really, really happy about what his future holds,’ Ellerbe once said. ‘He just has to continue to stay humble. That’s the key.

‘As success comes, he has to continue to work hard, stay focused, listen to his team. And the sky’s the limit.’

Moton has revealed what he felt like while preparing for his professional debut, in which he beat his opponent in the first round.

‘The day of the weigh-in I was nervous. The morning of the fight I was nervous,’ he recalled. ‘Then I put on my uniform (matching red-and-white shirt and trunks) and looked at myself in the mirror. I thought, ‘This is fresh!”

‘I started feeling like [I belong here].’

Curmel Moton’s dream is laid out already: ‘I want to be one of the youngest world champions ever. I want to make history, do great things in the sport.’

Once before the boy’s first professional match, Floyd Mayweather asked a champion, Leigh Wood, to be his boy’s opponent.

‘Leigh Wood – I’ve got a 126lber Curmel Moton, that would be a good match now. He’s turning professional. We take chances to be great,” Floy Mayweather had said.

‘Eddie Hearn is a good businessman and I’m a good businessman. Our guy is 0-0, we’ll take the fight. I’ll put all the money up for both sides. My guy’s 17, he’s destined to be great. Remember I told you that.’

However, Leigh’s reply was both funny and daring.
