Francis Ngannou’s coach discusses trainee’s next fight
Dewey Cooper, Francis Ngannou’s coach, discussed his trainee’s next bout which will take place at famous Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ngannou will be facing Anthony Joshua on March 8 in what will be Ngannou’s second pro boxing bout. His debut took place back in October 23 in a match with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and famously ended in a controversial loss.
Now Ngannou is going to test his boxing skills against former lineal heavyweight champion Joshua less than a year after leaving the UFC.
Dewey Cooper will help the Cameroonian to face Joshua who is coming from a fifth-round victory over Otto Wallin.
Speaking to Seconds Out ahead of the fight, Dewey Cooper was found saying the following while discussing about the future fight:
‘The grit, will, and desire of Francis Ngannou will be stronger and outdo that same thing in Anthony Joshua.
‘Joshua has power so we have to be very sharp and strong, and those are two things we plan on doing anyway so it’s another day at the office for us.’
Many believe the fight will be different from that between the new pro boxer and Fury, and Cooper agreed.
‘This fight is a different fight to the Tyson Fury fight. The Dynamics are different. Fury is a highly skilled guy and difficult to match skill and brains and IQ with.
‘Joshua is a stronger guy, he’s more of a threat, he has that power, a strong jab and that excellent right hand.
‘He’s a big strong guy like Francis Ngannou so you got two Herculean dudes going against each other so aesthetically it’s gunna look like heavyweight boxing is supposed to look.’
UFC CEO Dana White once said that Ngannou’s performance against Fury showed the MMA fighters can do well in boxing rings, but was among the reason Ngannou left the promotion for the PFL.
A court session will be held in April in the USA as the alleged malpractices of the UFC continues being talked about.
There are now more pro fight opportunities for the Ngannou, one of them being the chance to contend for the undisputed world heavyweight championship.
Tyson Fury and Oleksander Usyk will try to supply this winner through the undisputed world heavyweight championship bout that will be held on February 17.
