Martin Bakole’s Coach: ‘Those who refused to fight him’
Congolese heavyweight boxer Martin Bakole finds it hard to get fight contracts, according to recent rumours. His coach Billy Nelson has now listed out boxers who rejected the African’s fight propositions.
In Bakole’s 20-fight boxing career, he has suffered only one defeat.
But the rarely-seen heavyweight said he had defeated some boxers, one of whom was lineal heavyweight king Oleksander Usyk, during sparring sessions. His claim about Usyk was later attested to by a verified member of Usyk’s crew.
While having a conversation with iFL TV, Bakole’s coach Billy Nelson highlighted his client’s place in the world boxing circle, while mentioning boxers that refused to fight Bakole in the ring.
‘He’s now in the Top 10,’ Nelson said. ‘He’s number two in one of the organisations.
‘So theoretically it should be the top two in the four organisations plus any of the champions.
‘You’ve got Usyk and Fury, and then it should be the next two in the organisations [that Martin is fighting.]
‘You’ve got Frank Sanchez who beat Junior Fa, both said no to Martin, so did Miller, so did Wilder.
‘Martin Bakole got offered four fights and we said aye to the lot of them and supposedly, apart from Wilder cause Joe was always the number one guy to fight him, the other three said no.’
Bakole’s most recent bout happened last year’s October when he stopped Carlos Takam in four rounds. It seems the Congolese should either pursue mandatory fights or keep waiting till someone decides to accept his offer.
He could be one of the most-feared boxers in the division.
