Martin Bakole’s trainer reveals ‘embarassing’ situation
Heavyweight contender Martin Bakole’s trainer revealed a situation he called ‘embarassing’ lately.
Bakole who is the WBA’s number one contender has been kept far from any heavyweight title, reportedly because of the reluctance of prospective opponents.
Speaking to Boxing Social while talking about the matter, his coach Billy Nelson said that four big heavyweight boxers have rejected offers to fight Bakole. They were Joseph Parker, Anthony Joshua, Agit Kabayel and Daniel Dubois.
‘Three of those four have been offered the fight and said no,’ Nelson said. ‘He’s the most avoided heavyweight on the planet and it’s embarrassing. It’s embarrassing the number of people who have been offered a fight with Martin and said no.’
More strategic contracts would place Bakole nearer to a heavyweight title, so Nelson made the following suggestion:
‘What Martin needs is a final eliminator, regular title or interim title, he’s needs something that will push him forward.’
Nelson was against telling Bakole to fight Hunter.
‘Everybody talks about fighting Hunter, get the rematch with Hunter, why would we with our number 1 rank with the WBA fight someone who is unranked.
‘Of course, we want to make the wrong a right but why would we do that when he goes and beats Hunter and doesn’t improve his position?’
Bakole who formerly beat Carlos Takam might be avoided further if he does not place himself where it would be hard to do so.
