Renowned pundit Carl Froch challenges former boxer

A former professional boxer now turned pundit, Carl Froch, has asked a former pugilist to a bout following a fan’s social media comment.

Carl Froch said that he was ready to fight Joe Calzaghe in a professional boxing match if the latter was ready for it. Froch said this in a video he posted on YouTube recently.

‘There was something on social media that said Joe Calzaghe wouldn’t rule out a fight with me… He did say he’d fight me. Would I have an exhibition with him? Yeah, I think I would,’ said Froch.

Both Brits were contemporaries but failed to meet in the ring before retiring. Carl Froch had taken to punditry and is one of those saying that Tyson Fury lost his recent fight with Francis Ngannou, in which Fury was knocked down in the third round of the ten-round bout and taken the distance by a boxing debutant.

Speaking in the video, Froch went ahead to say why he and fellow Hall of Famer Calzaghe should face off.

‘Because he’s as old, if not older, than me, and we both know the game, I think we both know how to look after each other in the ring. Probably 16-ounce gloves because I don’t want this nose getting smashed. Calzaghe can fight,’ continued Froch.

Yet Froch knows the likelihood of getting things sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control.

‘It wouldn’t be licenced by the British Boxing Board of Control [but] listen, I don’t know how long it’d be an exhibition for.

He’d hit me; I’d hit him back; hang on a minute; we’re both retired champions, Hall of Famers; we’re both going to want to win, aren’t we?’ he said. ‘It would probably be massive. It’d be an exhibition, but I think it would be a full-on exhibition.’

It would not be a surprise if both men happened to have a bout, since fans would love to watch two Hall of Famers check out who is still the best.
