Shakur Stevenson’s untimely announcement of his retirement gets a reply
26-year-old Shakur Stevenson shocked fans not long ago by anouncing that he was hanging the gloves. Now the WBC lightweight champion’s statement has been replied by Oscar De La Hoya.
Stevenson posted the following recently on X:
‘I’m officially retiring from the sport of boxing, I’ll be in the gym forever perfecting my craft and helping the next generation become great and chase their dreams, but I ain’t f***ing with this weak boxing game.’
The champion’s last outing against Edwin De Los Santos was much spoken against due its barrenness of many punches. Stevenson’s move might have been because of the criticisms that followed thereafter.
In reply to his surprising announcement, Oscar De La Hoya tweeted, ‘Congratulations on what you accomplished @ShakurStevenson, now time to vacate the title. Really enjoyed your career.’
A reply to that is yet to come.
