Tyson Fury’s representative says exact date for the Fury-Usyk undisputed fight

Amid widespread scepticism as to whether the fight will become a reality, Tyson Fury’s representative, Spencer Browne, has revealed the date of the undisputed fight between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

His statement came after Usyk said he needed a long time to prepare for the fight and needed to know the exact date. This gave the feeling that even one of the contestants did not know the time of a fight, which many thought would not happen. Browne’s timely statement looked like damage control at best.

‘I can assure you that’s not the case [Oleksandr Usyk not being available for December 23rd due to him needing a 14-week camp],’ Browne claimed. ‘I can categorically tell you that we’re going on the 23rd. So, we’re not bothered about anybody else, really. Why would we be?

‘I spoke to his management last night about the situation, and so did Frank & George Warren. We’ve had lengthy conversations. That’s not the case, and we’re full steam ahead for the 23rd [of December]. That’s a great fight, and it’s a good warmup fight.’

Tyson Fury is set to face UFC heavyweight former champion and boxing amateur Francis Ngannou on the 28th of this month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Boxing fans would have preferred a boxing match featuring two faces from among the heavyweight division of boxing, but fans of combat sports in general are very expectant to see who would lose among the two, though popular opinion deems Tyson Fury the likely victor.

A famous promoter recently alleged that the reason a match between Fury and Usyk is being spoken of at a time like this is because fans were unhappy that the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was to fight an easy underdog instead of a fellow champion. Saying the Usyk-Fury match was a diversion of attention, he said the promoter promising people that the match would happen was just doing what a promoter would do.

Spencer Browne’s statement did nothing to change public opinion on the matter; instead, it gave people an opportunity to air their disbelief.
