Undefeated Shakur Stevenson says the coolest fighter ‘in the history of boxing’
Shakur Stevenson recently disclosed ‘the smartest fighter that [He’s] ever seen in the history of boxing’ .
Stevenson, a Olympic medalist in his middle twenties (26 years) has hitherto been undefeated in the boxing ring. Fans are usually awed by his fighting IQ, and pundits rate him to be among the most intelligent fighters of the time.
The North American is even expected by some to increase his weight class, since he has been doing well in the Lightweight division. Something experts might disagree with.
In his statement at Million Dollaz Worth Of Game, Stevenson revealed that Floyd Mayweather is the smartest boxer he had ever seen.
‘Floyd is probably the smartest fighter that I’ve ever seen in the history of boxing.’
– Stevenson.
One thing that separates Mayweather from many in the contemporary heavyweight, is his ability to dodge blows in the ring. Deficiency in this skill or lack of the desire to use it allegedly brought Muhammad Ali great sufferings in his old age.
Talking at the same event where he revealed whom he thought was the coolest fighter ever, Stevenson said he copied Mayweather’s defense method whenever in the ring.
‘My grandfather always taught me the art of boxing is to hit and not get hit,’ said undefeated Stevenson. ‘So the way I was brought up I always knew I want to be able to hit a fighter and not let them hit me back. I trained myself every day to make sure that’s how my style was, and if I’m doing that I know I’m the best fighter in the world.’
Many have made fun of Floyd Mayweather in the past, saying he ran around a lot in the ring. Few even joked he brought the art of running to the world of boxing, but the former-champion was not the first to initiate the style in his boxing technique. Videos from the past prove that Mayweather might only have learnt from what is already in place.
Fighters like Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua might want to copy this fast use of the feet, as it will save them lots of troubles later.
Pundits think Shakur Stevenson will end up earning a place in the hall of fame, at this rate.
