Why Anthony Joshua should fight first, according to Carl Froch
Carl Froch has given Anthony Joshua as the main attraction contained in the world boxing event coming up in December 23.
On his You Tube outlet, Froch explained why the Brit should be considered to fight in the maincard over Deontay Wilder, another big dog to feature at the event.
Following Joshua’s loss of the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles, Joshua beat two underdogs in the persons of Franklin and Robert Helenius, but is yet to touch any belt since then.
Not very long ago, news from his camp signified that he intends to win a heavyweight title once more and wants a last bout for the year.
However, discussions with Deontay Wilder as the next opponent failed over and over to the point that Joshua was matched urgently with Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin to make sure Joshua fights this year.
Coincidentally, Wilder will be fighting in the same location as Joshua with Joseph Parker, a sparring partner of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. It has long been discussed which of the two — Joshua and former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder — should feature in the main card.
‘I have got to say Anthony Joshua,’ began Froch on his You Tube video. ‘Anthony Joshua is the big name, he is the big news, he is the former two-time world champion and he is rebuilding, people are interested in what he has got to do.’
Bringing Wilder into his discussion, he tried to prove why the American was not the best choice.
‘Deontay Wilder, obviously he lost to Tyson Fury twice and gave him a draw in one of their meetings. Although he is a big name, he is in against Parker and all eyes are going to be on AJ-Wallin.
‘ “What is AJ going to do? Can he perform? Can he get the finish? Can he look good? Can he show confidence?”, all of these unanswered questions of things that we have not seen in his last couple of comeback fights.’
Froch repeated that Joshua versus Wallin should be the maincard.
‘I’d say Anthony Joshua-Otto Wallin will be the bill topper, that will be the last fight of the night,’ he said.
Some want both Wilder and Joshua to win their bouts so they could meet each other next year. But Wilder recently made a complaint against Joshua’s people, saying they were hindering the signing of the fight.
‘It’s his management that have held him back from fighting me because, you know, he’s a fighter,’ said Wilder. ‘It’s been over six years (waiting for the fight to be made). But there comes a point in time we’re you’re like, “Forget it”
‘Many times he wanted to fight, he wanted to accept it but his handlers didn’t want it because Joshua is the money-maker for the company. And if he goes down, so does the business.’
