Why Conor Benn versus Eubank Jr. is trending
Conor Benn announced recently that a fight between him and Chris Eubank Jr. would be held on February 3.
However, a big mountain is presently in the way of the event in form of the repercussions of Conor Benn’s past doping test.
Though Benn and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, were getting ready to see the fight with Eubank Jr. hold in London as was formerly publicised, the General Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control had something bad to say.
‘The Board feel that any athlete, not just a boxer, but any athlete who has failed a drugs test needs to go through an investigation with the proper authorities and that hasn’t happened,’ said General Secretary Robert Smith. ‘We’re waiting for that to happen and the Boxing Board and UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) have been pushing for that to happen right from the beginning of this and unfortunately it’s been delayed, not through the Boxing Board of Control or UKAD, but through other parties.’
According to Eddie Hearn, some things are still to be concluded before the fighter meets his opponent.
It is possible that Benn’s crew might pursue other alternatives if fighting on British soil remains difficult.
‘With regard to Mr Benn boxing in this country, we have had an application for him to box in this country, that has been refused,’ added Smith. ‘They can put out what they want ultimately, but they haven’t been through the proper authorities and as I said before we’re really keen to get this done right from the beginning.’
Hearn and Benn are yet to reply.
