Two of Senegal’s special players said something identical about their title defense in this year’s AFCON competition.

Earlier this year, Sadio Mane said the following concerning the last contest:

‘First, winning the AFCON was the best trophy I have ever won in my life, and coming to do it again will be special and a big achievement.

‘It’s been a dream to play in this competition since I was a kid, and we will do our best. Winning the AFCON will have a big impact on our football because we have won all the other categories, which is great for the country.’

Then planning to step into a different scene where he will be seen as the defending champion, the Al Nassr player revealed his team expected the games to be hard.

‘We know it won’t be easy, but we will be there to do our best and try to go through every round. We are expecting tough competition. This competition will be one of the strongest since I started playing in it because all the big countries are here and they all have their targets, but we will see what will happen.’

One of the things the captain of the team, Kalidou Koulibaly said recently during an interview that rhymes with something Mane mentioned was that the competition will be tough.

‘We can see that everybody is happy, Sadio is happy in his club, Edou is too. The most important is to bring this positivity to the national team and for us it’s important.

‘People are writing a lot of things about us, we have to show them that it is not a vacation in Saudi Arabia – but it was working to be ready for this AFCON.

‘I won’t lie to you, it’s an opportunity to show everybody that you can play in Saudi Arabia and win titles with your national teams. Everybody was asking questions when we signed over there – but when they see the level we have in the national team, we have the same as the others.

‘Our objective is to win the AFCON – it will be difficult, we know it – and we will give everything for this objective.

‘But my second objective is to show that in Saudi Arabia, you can play in a good league with a lot of good players and be competitive in the national team.’

The team beat Cameroon 3-1 lately, and is among the topmost favourites in the ongoing AFCON competition.
