Arsenal FC: Mikel Arteta runs afoul of FA

Arsenal’s chief tactician, Mikel Arteta, fell into trouble by stepping on several toes through his post match comment in the wake of Arsenal’s loss to Newcastle. The FA will not let this slide.

In a recent statement released by the FA, they charged the coach of breaching an FA rule.

This could see the manager get punished in the future.

FA’s statement read: ‘Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following comments that he made in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday 4 November.

‘It’s alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute. Mikel Arteta has until Tuesday 21 November to provide a response to this charge.’

Now it is still unknown what Arsenal will do concerning the new development, having stood behind the coach in an announcement they had published.

‘Arsenal Football Club wholeheartedly supports Mikel Arteta’s post-match comments after yet more unacceptable refereeing and VAR errors on Saturday evening,’ wrote Arsenal FC. ‘We’d also like to acknowledge the huge effort and performance from our players and travelling supporters at St James’ Park.

‘The Premier League is the best league in the world with the best players, coaches and supporters, all of whom deserve better.

‘PGMOL (the body in charge of Premier League referees) urgently needs to address the standard of officiating and focus on action which moves us all on from retrospective analysis, attempted explanations and apologies.

‘We support the ongoing efforts of Chief Refereeing Officer, Howard Webb and would welcome working together to achieve the world-class officiating standards our league demands.’

What exactly did Arteta say to offend the FA? After losing to Newcastle by one goal to nought, he vocalized his dissatisfaction in the officiating officers’ validating of the winning goal.

‘Praising my players for the way we played, we didn’t deserve to lose the match playing in their ground and we lose because of clear and obvious decisions,’ said Arteta after the contest. ‘It is embarrassing, it is a disgrace, that’s what it is, a disgrace.

‘It is how I feel. The amount of messages we’ve sent saying this cannot continue. I’m sorry, embarrassing. I’m defending my players when I have to, I defend my job when it is not good enough. I have to be here, to say it now, it is not acceptable, too much at stake.’

An independent panel has studied the decision made to award the goal, but found nothing wrong with it.
